Love is not passive. It shows up. It crosses borders. It stays.
We are a nonprofit rooted in faith, built on the conviction that every person, no matter what they have survived or lost, carries worth that cannot be stripped from them. That is not a mission statement to us. It is a posture. It is how we enter every room, every country, every relationship. This is the heart behind Justice Wears Love. And this is the story of how it began.
Our founder, Athina De Jesus, did not set out to start a nonprofit. She set out to be faithful.
She grew up in a home marked by dysfunction and hardship. But in her lowest moment, when she had nothing left to offer and nowhere left to turn, God met her there. That encounter changed everything. Not overnight, and not without cost. But completely.
For years Athina worked in fashion in Los Angeles, building a career in an industry she genuinely loved. Slowly, the vision for something larger began to take shape. Fashion and justice. Creativity and compassion. A love that could travel.
In March 2024, she felt a clear and specific call to Brazil. The same month, her job ended. She took it as confirmation and went. What she found there was not a project. It was people.
Justice Wears Love grew out of that. Not from strategy, but from presence. Not from a pitch deck, but from years of showing up and refusing to leave.
Dignity is not earned. It is inherent. It does not disappear because of what someone has been through, where they were born, or what has been done to them. It is there, waiting to be recognized and honored.
Love has to be active. It has to move. It has to be willing to go to uncomfortable places and stay longer than is convenient. Faith without works is not faith at all. It is just a feeling.
Justice and creativity belong together. Fashion, art, and culture are not separate from the work of restoration. They are part of it. For communities stripped of so much, reclaiming that is not a small thing.
We walk alongside, not above. We are not rescuers. We are neighbors. The people we serve are not projects. They are human beings with history, agency, and gifts that the world needs.
WE'VE
BEEN
ENOUGH TO
SHOW UP ONCE.
Sustainable change requires roots. It requires commitment. It requires something built to last. That is what Justice Wears Love is building now.
In Brazil, women and children escaping sex trafficking and domestic violence often have nowhere to go. Leaving is not simply a decision. It requires a destination. Dwelling Place is that destination. A safe house. A place of stability, care, and long-term restoration for women and children who have survived the unsurvivable. This is our most immediate and urgent project. And we are committed to seeing it through.
Our next chapter is Morocco, where thousands of refugees displaced by war and conflict are rebuilding their lives with very little support. Justice Wears Love is developing a program rooted in creative employment and dignified work, using fashion and craftsmanship to open pathways to income and restored identity. This chapter is still being written. But we are already preparing for it.
What we have is a direction, a conviction, and a God who has been faithful every step of the way.
We are going to the places that are easy to forget. The communities that do not make headlines. The women and children who are surviving in silence. The refugees who arrived somewhere safe and are now wondering what comes next.
Brazil is not the end. Morocco is not the end. Justice Wears Love was built with a global vision because the need is global and the call does not stop at one border. We believe God is opening doors, and we intend to walk through every one of them.
If you have found this page, you are not here by accident. There is a place for you in this story, whether you give, whether you serve, whether you simply choose to bear witness to what God is doing through ordinary people who said yes.
It is better to go together.
Your generosity funds safe housing in Brazil, creative employment programs in Morocco, and the operational foundation that keeps this work moving. Every dollar goes toward something real, for someone real.
Give NowWhether you have skills to offer, time to give, or a network to connect us with, there is a place for you here. We are always looking for people who want to be part of the work, not just supporters of it.
